about Cheryl
/ artistCheryl Richardson is an Australian artist living in Sydney. After many years of painting watercolour she discovered Chinese brush painting and 10 years of private classes ensued. Cheryl then challenged herself to begin painting with acrylics in 2004. She has been selected and invited to many shows and has also been a consistent finalist in art prizes. The three mediums that Cheryl employs have become companions and fused together over time, borrowing ideas, values and skills from each other and blending to an exciting fusion of syrupy washes, brush marks and paint drips. Her practice consists of fine sketches, little watercolours and acrylic paintings. The brush is an extension of what lies within as it dabs and dots across the canvas. She spends a lot of time thinking and uses a slow and deliberate process of preparation to achieve a richness of depth, a moment of whimsy, e.g; a bee, butterfly, a random flower, and a constant dance with pink. Her art is about personal experience and her inspiration comes from light, colour, shape and form. When these elements melt together, the result is a world of make believe and creativity where landscapes are born and imagination becomes reality. She hopes that her landscapes transport a viewer to another place to give them a moment to ponder and let their thoughts meander through a painting.
